CSK made three major wrong calls that have now led to a captaincy crisis, check out
No Faf du Plessis
CSK opted to choose Orange Cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad for Rs 6 crore ahead of Faf du Plessis ahead of IPL 2022. The latter had scored just a couple of runs less than now FLOP Gaikwad. RCB came up with a plan to get Faf as their captain and spent Rs 7 crore. At 37, du Plessis can easily continue as captain for the next three years.
Suresh Raina overlooked
Suresh Raina had the experience of leading now-defunct Gujarat Lions. He was completely ignored owing to his disastrous form in IPL 2022. CSK could have bought him at base price (Rs 2 crore) and it would have paid off for CSK under current scenario. David Warner too had failed to perform last IPL but was eventually bought by Delhi Capitals. ‘Form in temporary, class is permanent’ – Labelled as Mr IPL, Raina could have got one more opportunity.

No Youngster/ Big players ignored
Chennai Super Kings didn’t look out to try the likes of Shubman Gill who could have been groomed under MS Dhoni. Even though GT picked Gill in retention, a clear message would have kept him in the fray for the CSK franchise at auctions.
Shubman Gill- IPL 2022 salary: Rs 8 crore
At the same time, the likes of captaincy options Quinton de Kock & R Ashwin were ignored as CSK burnt their maximum cash in retentions. R Jadeja’s Rs 16 crore price tag finally failed to justify big time.
Quinton de Kock IPL 2022 salary: Rs 6.75 crore
R Ashwin IPL 2022 salary: Rs 5 crore
