Rishi Dhawan, who has had a terrific domestic season this year finally got his much-deserved chance as he was named in the in Punjab Kings playing XI for the first-time this year.
He was introduced into the attack to bowl the fifth over of the innings. Even before the innings he caught everyone’s attention by sporting the face shield. “Rishi Dhawan has come to bowl with a face mask on. Have you seen anything like this before?” said an amused Deep Dasgupta as soon as he saw Rishi Dhawan marking his bowling run-up with a face mask on.
The reason for the protection on his face has however been revealed. During the Ranji Trophy this year, he was hit on the face on his follow through during the second round. He had to be taken for hospital for scans. Though there was not a big injury, he has decided to be cautious and wore this specially designed face shield to protect himself.
The Himachal Pradesh all-rounder was bought for 55 Lakhs by Punjab Kings at the auction this year. By featuring in the playing XI for the first time on Monday, he made a comeback in the IPL after a six-year absence. He last played for Kings XI Punjab in the 2016 edition of the league.
