IPL 2022: Chamika Karunaratne’s IPL voyage cut short as Kolkata Knight Riders to RELEASE all-rounder after SLC’s request
As per sources in Sri Lanka cricket, Karunaratne will join the squad in Sri Lanka on May 4 after KKR’s match against Rajasthan Royals on May 2.
“Chamika hasn’t played a game and it is unlikely that he will play any. That is why he has been recalled. He will join the squad in Colombo before leaving for Dhaka on 8th May,” an SLC official told InsideSport.IN.

With the confirmation of Karunaratne’s release, Sri Lanka has also announced an 18-member squad for the Bangladesh tour. However, Sri Lanka haven’t included IPL regulars such as Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera as they have been featuring in the Playing XI for their franchises.
But Bhanuka Rajapaksa hasn’t been given a recall. He was dropped from the squad on the fitness ground. However, Rajapaksa showed great form with the bat for Punjab Kings before being benched for Jonny Bairstow.

- Pathum Nissanka who impressed during India series has not been called up as he is recovering from a back injury.
- Kusal Perera, Sri Lanka’s temporary white-ball captain is also missing as he is set to undergo surgery for an injury.
- Avishka Fernando is also recovering from injury and is missing from the squad.
- The two-match Test series will be new head coach Chris Silverwood’s first assignment.
