“I feel Rishabh is showing a few glimpses of MS Dhoni’s characteristics behind the stumps. He guides well and stays calm on the field. Wicketkeepers play a big role in the success of spinners. Kuldeep Yadav with MS Dhoni behind stumps:
- Kuldeep has bagged 23 of his 41 T20I wickets with Dhoni behind stumps with a strike rate of 11.7
- Without Dhoni, he has bagged only 18 wickets in 12 T20I matches.
- In ODIs, his 91 out of 109 wickets came with Dhoni behind the stumps with an economy rate of just 4.86.
- In the rest of 19 matches, he has only scalped 18 wickets.

However, under Rishabh Pant, he is flourishing again. In the IPL 2022, he has bagged 13 wickets in 7 matches with Pant guiding him from behind the stumps. This is his second-best IPL performance. If he bags five more wickets in the 7 matches, he will record his best IPL performance. In IPL 2018, he bagged 17 wickets.
“When you are given the freedom to express yourself then you start to enjoy everything. When I spoke to Ricky during my first practice session with the team, he told me that I am bowling very well and that he’s looking to play me for all 14 league matches. That conversation with him motivated me a lot,” Kuldeep Yadav said.
Kuldeep also credited Assistant Coach Shane Watson for his success. The former Australian all-rounder has been guiding him at DC.
“Shane Watson has also helped me a lot. I am very lucky to have worked with Watson for three-four sessions. He has particularly helped me with the mental aspect of the game. I have shared a lot of things with him about what I have been through before joining this team. I speak openly with him,” Kuldeep said.
The Delhi Capitals are set to take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match of the IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday, 28 April 2022.
