Losing the toss and being asked to bowl, KKR found early success as Shubman Gill was dismissed in the second over. However skipper Hardik Pandya scored yet another half-century and he built a 50-run partnership with both Wriddhiman Saha and David Miller to help the team post a good total on the board.
Despite struggling to pick wickets, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer decided to stick with his five bowlers as they managed to bring back the game to their control. Tim Southee was the pick of the bowlers as he too three wickets in his four overs.
Surprisingly, Andre Russell was not given the ball until the last over of the innings. With an over from Varun Chakravarthy remaining, Shreyas Iyer finally handed the ball to Andre Russell to bowl the 20th over and the move worked wonders.

- He took a wicket off his first delivery by dismissing Abinav Manohar, who hit it straight to Rinku Singh at Deep-midwicket.
- In the second ball, he bowled a short ball which was hit hard by Lockie Ferguson and Rinku Singh at deep-midwicket once again took a well-judged catch.
- He was on a hat-trick but it was denied by Alzarri Joseph who took a single in the third delivery to give strike to Rahul Tewatia. Tewatia then scored a boundary off the fourth ball.
- He was however dismissed as he yet again gave a simple catch to Rinku Singh.
- In the last ball of the over, he took a catch off his own bowling to dimiss Yash Dayal.
- He picked up four wickets in six balls and thereby became the first-ever bowler in IPL to take four wickets in a single over spell.
