The World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan had opted for Ramiz Raja to take the crucial role and change Pakistan cricket for the better. Raja has been vocal about Pakistan’s success, hosted Australia (after 24 years gap), West Indies and finally negotiated tours with England and New Zealand to bring international cricket back to Pakistan.
- Ramiz Raja played 255 international matches under Imran Khan’s leadership. The latter has spoken to him and asked him to continue and fight till the end.
- A complete overall is on the cards as former PCB members have urged the govt to go back to the previous domestic structure. In 2019-20, domestic cricket was changed to the provincial model, a model copied from Australia’s domestic scene.
- New Premier Shahbaz Sharif is reportedly looking for options to replace Ramiz Raja. Najam Sethi, former PCB chairman, is the front-runner for the top job.
- Meanwhile, Ramiz Raja has continued as PCB chief but the change in chairmanship is inevitable. He was in Dubai for ICC meetings as he saw his plans for the quadrangular tournament turned down. He has also announced plans for the Junior PSL-based T20 league.

Notably, the Prime Minister of Pakistan also defaults PCB’s patron-in-chief constitutionally nominates two members to PCB governing board. The final appointment is made via an election but that is just a formality.
