IPL 2022: Shreyas Iyer smashes BRILLIANT HALF-CENTURY – Chasing a 200+ target is not a matter of joke. For Kolkata Knight Riders it was their skipper Shreyas Iyer who tried hard and came to the rescue but failed to win the game for his side owing to a brilliant spell from Yuzvendra Chahal. Iyer went on to score 85 off 51 balls as KKR fell short of a brilliant run chase by just 7 runs. Follow IPL 2022 Live Updates on InsideSport.IN

Batting first Rajasthan Royals slammed KKR all over the park as Jos Buttler went on to score his second hundred of the IPL 2022 campaign as Rajasthan went on to score of 217. In reply, KKR under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer started their chase quite well.

A fiery inning from Shreyas Iyer saw the hard-hitting batter score 7 boundaries and 4 huge sixes as he pilled up the pressure on the opposition. However, a remarkable spell on the 17th over of the game by little magician Yuzvendra Chahal turned the game on its own. Chahal dismissed Iyer with an exceptional delivery and with that started the fall of the KKR middle and lower order.

The way Iyer was batting could have well been a victory for the Kolkata outfits. That could have well been KKR’s 3rd successful 200+ run chase in the history of IPL. That record however is held by Rajasthan Royals when they chased 226 against Kings XI Punjab at Sharjah in 2020.

Shreyas said, “I think from the start we got, we really were going well according to the run-rate. Finchy was good but once he was out, we slowed down a bit. We lacked a bit over there, but it’s a part of the game. Unfortunately, we couldn’t click. My plan was to bat through the end, the opposite batsman had to take it on from ball one.”

“The matchup Rana had was with Chahal. He did not time that and it happens. He [Buttler] started a bit slow and after that he just went off. The way he manoeuvres the ball, he is a classy batsman. Kudos to the way he batted. If we had got him out early, the scoreboard would’ve looked very different.”

“Amazing wicket to bat on. Unfortunately Brabourne hasn’t been great for us. Hopefully we will come back hard in the coming games. There is a lot of pressure and I love pressure. I just wanted to set an example, doesn’t matter whatever score they get. If they can get it, I can get it as well. That’s how I was thinking.”
