AFC Cup 2022 FT: ATK Mohun Bagan vs Abahani Dhaka Live: Local heavyweights ATK Mohun Bagan sealed off their place in the AFC Cup Group stage as they routed Bangladesh’s Abahani Limited Dhaka 3-1. The first half has been a half worth remembering for the Kolkata giants ATK Mohun Bagan. Two sublime goals from their Australian forward David Williams gave the Green and Maroon brigade a well-deserved 2-0 advantage over Abahani Dhaka. Though Dhaka Abahani dominated the half and even pulled a goal back, David Williams scored a wonderful hat-trick to seal the tie for his side.

The Mariners took just six minutes to open the scoring. Liston Colaco found Joni Kauko on the left wing and thereafter the Finnish midfielder drove in a perfect cross inside the six-yard box for Williams. The Australian skipped his marker and pokes the ball into the net.

The second goal for ATKMB came in a spectacular fashion. Prabir Das set up the Australian, David Williams on a platter from the right-wing and Williams made no mistake to score past Sahidul Alam. 2-0 for the Green and Maroon brigade as the Kolkata giants head into the half-time with a much-deserved lead.

The second half saw a different Abahani Limited Dhaka. The Bangladeshi side came with all guns blazing. The away team constantly harassed the Kolkata defense to commit mistakes and thereby scored a wonderful goal as Daniel pulled a goal back for his side.

On came wonderboy Kiyan Nasiri Giri for the last 10 minutes and was met with an astounding reception from the crowd. He came close to scoring on two different occasions but unfortunately failed to trouble the opponent keeper.

As Dhaka Abahani kept on pushing forward, they maintained a high defensive line. A clever through ball in a counterattack from Hugo Boumos slipped past the Abahani defense and handed in the path of a charging David Williams. The Australian charged on, dribbled past the goalie to slot home the third for his team and finish a wonderful hattrick.
