IPL 2022- Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik is not finished yet. He has re-emerged as one of the premier finishers in this season of IPL. About to turn 37 in a couple of months, he is light on his feet as ever while moving in the crease, disturbing the line and lengths of bowlers and making a mockery of the death overs.  Follow IPL 2022 Live Updates on Insidesport.IN
Now, with a string of impressive performances, Karthik is making a strong case for himself to earn a place back to the Indian squad, especially with the T20 World Cup slated for later this year. Let’s take a look at some of the plausible explanations which can favour Karthik in his dream.
– Play the finisher role that Dhoni used to play
Karthik have been giving exemplary displays of his vintage self with late flourish and quick rebuilding of innings in case of a collapse. And now with Dhoni not their in the national team ranks anymore, Karthik can be the ideal person who fits the bill of India’s late finishers with his skillset and umpteen experience.

Case 1: In the game against CSK, chasing a tall target, Bangalore needed a quick start. However, Chennai made early breakthroughs to put the opposition under pressure. Karthik coming to bat at No.7 threatened to snatch the game away from Chennai. With a score of 34 from just 14 balls and hammering at a strike rate of 242.86, the RCB wicket-keeper managed to halt celebrations briefly in the CSK camp. However, Jadeja & Co. survived to register first points on the board.

Case 2: Against Delhi Capitals, Karthik smashed a thunderous 66 off just 34 balls to help RCB revive from 92 for 5 in the 12th over to 189/5.

– Supreme form & Presence of mind asset

Karthik has been in a blistering form this season for RCB, scoring 197 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 209 and with a boundary averaging every three balls.

RCB vs Punjab Kings 32* 0c/0s 27-Mar-2022 DY Patil T20

Not just this, during RCB’s fixture against Rajasthan Royals, Karthik gave an impeccable display of his presence of mind.

– RCB were reduced to 87/5 in their chase of 170
– When Karthik came in, RCB needed almost 12 runs per over.

With all the stakes stacked against, RCB still managed to pull out a win and the answer is Dinesh Karthik. The beauty of his innings wasn’t simply in smashing four fours and three sixes but taking the game by the scruff of its neck. Karthik used his brilliance to not only manoeuvre the field placements but also negotiate danger bowler Chahal cleverly. In the end, Bangalore got there with five balls to spare.

– Will always keep Rishabh Pant on toes
While Karthik is doing everything possible to earn a spot back to India’s T20 squad, it will be not be a blessed news for Rishabh Pant. The DC skipper has delivered some big knocks in crucial games but has lacked consistency, and with Karthik back in the ranks it would mean competitiveness to bring the best out of each player.

His experience will help Rohit Sharma in crunch situations

Karthik has always had that busy demeanour about him on the sidelines. In his mind, there are always calculations running about what the situation is like even when he is not in the middle.  There is a complete reversal in his persona when at the crease- Karthik suddenly acquires Zen-mode.

In that, he is precise, both with his timing and skill, with his presence of mind, the methodical approach to manoeuvring the field and picking gaps without the express need to play crafty strokes. Rohit Sharma has strongly desired a matchwinning finisher, and will be of utmost importance when the Indian teams get ready for the ICC T20 WC.

Karthik makes strong case ahead of T20 World Cup: With the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 scheduled to be held in Australia later this year, Karthik is making a strong case for himself with his finishing prowess.

Fellow RCB teammate and ex-skipper Virat Kohli also echoed on the same line, “He has been amazing. With those scores, DK has definitely made a strong claim to play all forms of cricket.”

Having found the sweet spot, the wicketkeeper-batsman would like to continue the same form and win games for RCB. And in the process, might also earn a ticket to Down Under.
