Coming in to bat after the wicket of Kane Willaimson, when the team’s score was 39/2, Aiden Markram stuck a brilliant 94-run partnership with Rahul Tripathi that took the game completely away from KKR.
For majority of the partnership, Markram took on the role of the anchor and allowed his partner to score. Only after Tripathi got to his fifty, Markram started scoring boundaries. When 63 runs were needed off the last seven overs, Markram punished Umesh Yadav by smashin three consecutive boundaries to reduce the required run rate.
Even after Tripathi got out, Markram ensured he controlled the innings. He got to his fifty off 31 deliveries. It was indeed a tough chase but what was impressive in Markram’s knock is how he too calculated risks with a cool head and made the chase look very easy.
With 18 needed off the last three overs, Markram finished the game with a boundary and two consecutive sixes to make his team chase the total in 17.5 overs. This is Markram’s second half-century this season.
