What has made matters worse is that their poor show has made their team to even drop them from their playing XI. InsideSport takes a look at five players in IPL 2022, who have failed to justify their price tags.
Bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad based on his all-round abilities for 7.75 crores at the auction this year, the big-hitting West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd fared poorly in the two matches that he played this year. He scored 32 runs in two games and has also conceded 75 runs in eight overs and scalped just two wickets. His poor show, coupled with SRH’s loss in both the games has forced the team management to take him out of the playing XI.

23-year old Shivam Mavi, who was part of Kolkata Knight Riders for the last three seasons, played a good role in the team’s run-up to the final last year. He played nine matches and picked up 11 wickets at an economy of 7.24. His performance has made the franchise to pick him back again at the auction for 7.25 crores this year. The 23-year old however looked completely out of form in IPL 2022.
- He played just two matches this year but has leaked a lot of runs in both the games.
- He bowled just six overs and conceded 74 runs, picking up a solitary wicket.
- His poor returns has made the team to bench him after two appearances.

Tim David has been performing exceptionally well in the T20 leagues across the world over the last two years. He has made a good name for himself and this year there was a big battle for him at the auction with Mumbai finally getting him for a whopping 8.25 crores.
However the batsman, who was seen in a terrific for in the PSL failed to replicate it as he managed to score only 13 runs in the two games that he played for Mumbai Indians. In the process, he lost his place in the side and was made to warm the bench. Mumbai Indians, who are yet to win a single match even played with just two foreigners in their playing XI, but did not consider Tim David.

Shahrukh Khan, who has displayed his power-hitting skills time and again in the domestic circuit was bought for 9 crores at the auction this year by Punjab Kings, for whom the Tamil Nadu batter had already played last year.
The team management has backed him and given him five opportunities so far, but he is yet to take off this year. In five matches, he has just scored 60 runs at a strike rate of 120. With players like Jitesh Sharma performing well and youngsters like Prabhsimran Singh and Raj Bawa warming the bench, Shahrukh Khan’s place in the side is not certain if he continues his flop show with the bat.

South African speedster Anrich Nortje was retained by Delhi Capitals for 6.5 crores before the auction. He however suffered a hip injury and was out of action for the last three months. He made it to the Delhi Capitals camp without being 100% fit and continued his rehab before making it to the playing XI last week against Lucknow Super Giants.
The speedster however looked completely out of touch and gave away plenty of runs before making matters worse by bowling two beamers and being pulled out of the attack. It was a match to forget for Nortje as he conceded 35 runs in 2.2 overs. His poor outing forced Delhi Capitals to bench him for their next game.
