There are speculations that the Monaco contract will not be renewed. If this is the case, then one of the most iconic tracks will bid adieu to Formula 1. F1 podcaster Joe Saward said, “It could happen. There is no contract for Monaco in Formula 1. Well, there’s a contract this year. But it could be the last for Monaco.”

Monaco is known to be a glamorous city. On any given day the roads are filled with the most exotic and luxury cars. But for one weekend, the city turns up for the F1 event. Although, Monaco is a street circuit.
But, according to Joe Saward, this old tradition of racing at the Monte-Carlo will soon be no more. The 2022 Monaco Grand Prix is going to be the last race in Monaco. There is a possibility that Monaco won’t be on the calendar from 2023.

Bernie Ecclestone signed the contract with Monaco to host the races eleven years ago. Bernie was then the F1 chief executive when he signed the deal.

Saward also added that Formula 1 doesn’t really like its Monegasque visits. He said, “Monaco has always had a cheap fee because it thinks it’s more important than all the other races.”
The Monaco street circuit has been a part of motorsport for years. It has seen some of the fiercest battles on the track. Last year, It was Max Verstappen who won the Monaco Grand Prix followed by Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris.

However, as per the Concorde Agreement, Formula 1 can now host 25 races in a year. Las Vegas has joined the F1 calendar from next year. Meanwhile, China and Qatar could also make a comeback next year. So, one can assume that many races will have to bid adieu. Monaco has just missed once hosting a race in the last 68 years. The reason for it missing out was Covid-19.
This year-round seven is the Monaco Grand Prix and it will take place from 27th to 29th of May.
