MI vs RR Live: Shimron Hetmyer who has been ousted from West Indies’ limited overs squad on the basis of his fitness, chose the right man to showcase his revenge. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, the 25-year old southpaw took on Pollard in the 17th over of the innings. Pollard started the over by bowling two short of a length deliveries and they were dispatched into the backward square leg and deep-midwicket fence as Hetmyer hit back-to-back sixes.

He continued the assault by hitting a boundary on the off-side off the next delivery. Having conceded 14 runs in the first three balls, Pollard lost his line and delivered one down the leg side. Hetmyer pounced on the opportunity and diverted it towards fine-leg boundary. The fifth delivery of the over too resulted with another boundary that clipped his pads and rushed towards the fence. With a single off the last ball, the over yielded 26 runs that helped Rajasthan reach 170 by the end of 17 overs.

Right from the start of this year, Hetmyer was ommitted from several West Indies white-ball squads on fitness grounds. In January, West Indies coach Phil Simmons was critical of him and said that he had failed his fitness test and blasted out on the batsman for letting himself and the team down. Hetmyer last played for West Indies during the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE.

However, with his fine knock today, he has showcased the form with which he is batting at the moment. He scored a 14-ball 35 with three fours and three sixes, that helped Rajasthan Royals set 194 run target for Mumbai Indians.

Hetmyer will look to continue his form throughout the IPL season and would hope the performance here would open the doors for him to make a comeback to the West Indies side.
