Mumbai Indians’ opening blues continued as Delhi Capitals made light work of Jasprit Bumrah & Co at the Brabourne Stadium. Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel put up a 75-run stand to help DC register a 4-wicket victory in the opening match.
It was Mumbai Indians’ straight 10 consecutive loss in the opening match as Rohit Sharma & Co last registered a win in the opening game back in 2012. However, that wasn’t supposed to be the case.

Ishan Kishan showed why Mumbai Indians broke their banks for. With a fantastic 81-run knock, Ishan kept Mumbai afloat even when scoring got difficult. After partnering Rohit Sharma for 67-run opening stand, he kept on scoring runs and remained not out on 81 off just 48 balls. Thanks to his knock, Mumbai Indians posted 177/5 in 20 overs.
Rishabh Pant departed in the next over off a Tymal Mills delivery with DC 32/3. While Lalit Yadav and Prithvi Shaw added 40-run stand to steady DC, they were dealt another double blow when Basil Thampi sent Prithvi Shaw and Rovamann Powell back in the same over with DC down 72/5.
But Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel made the most of Jasprit Bumrah’s off day and Mumbai’s missed chances. Lalit smashed 48 off 38 while Axar Patel hit 38 off 17 as DC chased down the target with eight balls to spare.
