IPL 2022: Suryakumar Yadav to miss first match? – Mumbai Indians have been dealt a big blow as Suryakumar Yadav is all set to miss the first match. On Wednesday, MI captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that Surya is still recovering at the NCA. Follow DC vs MI and IPL 2022 Live Updates on InsideSport.IN.
“Suryakumar is at the NCA. We are waiting for him to join us. We are hopeful that he will get the clearance from NCA in time,” Rohit Sharma said.
Suryakumar Yadav is an important cog in MI’s batting line-up and was all set to bat at No 3. But in his absence, Tilak Verma is likely to get the nod. Suryakumar Yadav suffered a thumb injury during India’s West Indies series and missed the Sri Lanka series.

However, the good news for Mumbai Indians is that Australians Daniel Sams, Riley Meredith and Tim David are all available as they are not part of Australia’s central contract. Cricket Australia had granted NOC to centrally contracted players from April 6, meaning many top IPL stars would have missed the first week of IPL. However, as neither of the MI players are centrally contracted, they will be able to play from the first match.

Mumbai Indians Press Conference:
Playing at home: Mahela: It is not in our control. Last year, many played at home conditions. But this time, surfaces will be very true and we don’t have any control over Wankhede. We have to approach this as a neutral and play to our potential.
On X-Factor: Mahela: We are backing everyone to be the X-factor, especially in big games. They have to understand the culture and go ahead and express themselves.
On scouting: Rohit: We definitely take pride in our scouting. We have U19 players including Tilak Verma. But he is not alone. We have many young talents.
On resting himself: Rohit: I am obviously looking to play all games. There is no issue and I will play all matches unless there is an issue.

On new rules: Rohit: Obviously, the batters will have to be cautious about Mankading. I like the extra DRS and it will help rectify mistakes. It’s a good move to have two DRS like the international matches.
Expectation from Ishan: Mahela: It’s nothing to do with Ishan or his price tag. Price is not in the player or the franchise’s control. We obviously feel Ishan is important, especially in the opening with Rohit.
On Opening: Rohit: I will open the batting for sure. I will open the batting with Ishan.
On Dewald Brevis: Mahela: We haven’t finalised who we are going to play. We are very excited to see him at the nets. He is very eager to learn and that’s a good sign.
On Suryakumar: Rohit: Rohit: “Surya is at NCA. We are waiting for him to join us, once we get the clearance from NCA.”
On not retaining Pandya brothers: Rohit: It was the rule. We could not go beyond that. We knew with the quality we had, we would be missing out on big players.

Mumbai Indians have a potential headache in choosing their best playing XI ahead of their first encounter against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, 27th March 2022. Though MI managed to retain some of their core players, they, however, failed to replace the likes of Trent Boult and Rahul Chahar. The replacements of the spin-pace duo came with the likes of Tymal Mills, Mayank Markade, Murugan Ashwin, and Jaydev Unadkat. But it can be safely said that the replacements are likely to meet the standards set the by the former.
