Chopra’s claims came after the South African IPL-bound players decided to ditch the two-match Test series against Bangladesh and play the IPL starting from March 26. The South African players choosing franchise cricket over national commitments yet again triggered the club vs Country debate. However, the former India opener has defended the South African players and has said this is how international cricket works.

“The question that stems from this is – Is club bigger than the country? The club versus country debate has caught a little fire again. The question is – Is IPL bullying the other boards?” Chopra said in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel.

Players like Kagiso Rabada, Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, and Marco Jansen will not be part of the Test series against Bangladesh which is scheduled to begin on March 31 – five days after the IPL 2022 season begins.
The South African players’ decision to play IPL came after Test skipper Dean Elgar boldly said this will be a ‘litmus test of loyalty’ for his teammates. The southpaw’s comments though have backfired big time.
