Rafael Nadal in SemifinalsNadal beat Kyrgios: Kyrgios showed flashes of brilliance on the court, with his serving in particular a weapon as the Australian hit 12 aces to Nadal’s seven.

But Kyrgios also came under fire after the match for smashing his racquet in frustration, with the racquet rebounding off the floor and almost hitting a ballboy.

Earlier, Rafael Nadal entered the quarter-finals of the Indian Wells Masters with a 18-match win streak. Nadal clinched his 18th victory by defeating Reilly Opelka in straight sets in the fourth round to set up a quarter-final clash with Nick Kyrgios.

  • Fourth seed Nadal started off the year after recuerating from a foot injury that kept him out for a majority of the last half of 2021.
  • Nadal made a brilliant start by winning the Melbourne Summer Set 1 without dropping even a single set.
  • He then entered the Australian Open and made a terrific run, winning his second title at Melbourne Park by defeating Danill Medvedev in a five-set thriller.
  • At the Mexican Open, he once again clinched the title without dropping even a single set.
  • His form in the Indian Wells Masters has however been patchy as he had to play three sets to clinch a come-from behind victory over Sebastian Korda.
  • He however defeated Dan Evans and Reilly Opelka in the susequent rounds to enter the quarter-final.

  • Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios started the year with his home grand slam where he made a second-round exit in the men’s singles by losing to Daniil Medvedev.
  • He didn’t participate in any other tournament after that and entered the Indian Wells Masters.
  • He has had a good tournament as he hasn’t dropped a set so far. He defeated Sebastian Baez 6-4, 6-0 in the first round.
  • He then clinched another straight set victory against Federico Delbinos in the second round.
  • He then faced Casper Ruud in the third round and won the game 6-4, 6-4.
  • He reached the quarter-finals after receiving receiving a walkover from the previous game where his opponent Jannik Sinner withdrew due to an injury.

Nadal vs Kyrgios Head-to-Head: Both the players have met eight times in the past with Nadal maintaining a 5-3 lead. The last time both these players played was in 2020 at the Australian Open, where Nadal clinched a four-set victory.

While Nadal is in a prime form and IS looking to win his fourth successive tournament this year, Kyrgios cannot be taken lightly. He has had a good tournament and can give a tough challenge to the Spaniard. The match is expected to be a close one and can go into the third set.
