The Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA), who are the operators of the stadium, has confirmed that there have been talks on naming the stadium after local hero Kapil Dev, while the pavilion of the ground could be named after Yuvraj Singh.

“We had met the then UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore about naming the Sector 16 Stadium after Kapil Dev and the pavilion after Yuvraj Singh. The request has been with the UT Administration and hopefully it will be done,” UTCA president Sanjay Tandon told the media, as per quotes in the Indian Express. Previously, the 63-year-old former all-rounder, who himself is a member of the UTCA, stated that he is not playing any role in this proposed change of name.

Notably, while the Sector 16 Stadium is the home ground of Dev, it has also seen the growth and rise of many other Indian superstars. Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh are two players who used to frequent this stadium during the budding years of their career.
