Ganguly Attending Selection Meetings: 3 more Selectors voice concerns on BCCI President attending selection meetings: REPORT
What did the BCCI Selectors Says? The Indian Express report says that two of the selectors confirmed following to them.
Ganguly would log in for online selection meetings and “because of his stature and position, no one could object”.
One of them revealed that they often felt “bullied” by his presence. “It made many committee members uncomfortable and guarded in expressing their opinion,” said the selector to the paper.
Earlier on February 3rd InsideSport spoke to one of the current selector who confirmed Ganguly’s presence in the selection meetings. But at the same time also declared that he doesn’t interfere in the selections.
“It is what it is. You can’t complain to your boss, can you? But has he interfered in selection? No, he hasn’t. However, his mere presence is always intimidating as he is the president of the board. But can’t talk about it more,” the member of the selection committee told InsideSport on condition of anonymity.
Ganguly Attending Selection Meetings: 3 more Selectors voice concerns on BCCI President attending selection meetings: REPORTWhy Ganguly’s Presence in Selection Meetings is a issue? The BCCI constitution bars its president from having any role in picking the national team.
This clause has been part of the BCCI constitution in order to retain the independence and autonomy of the selection committee.
“The President is shorn of his say in selections,” the Supreme Court-approved constitution says.
The only BCCI office-bearer authorised to be present is the secretary, who acts as a convenor without a say in selection.
What Sourav Ganguly has to say about the accusations?
About allegations of him influencing team selection, he told news agency PTI: “I don’t think I need to answer anybody, anything (on this) and dignify any of these baseless accusations. I am the president of the BCCI and I do the job of what the president of the BCCI should be doing. (I have played) 424 international matches for India. Not a bad idea at times to remind people about it, isn’t it?”
