CWC 22 chief executive Andrea Nelson said the exemption would be much easier to manage operationally than the 100-person bubbles.

“We firmly believe we can deliver the event in the safest possible way for spectators,” Nelson said.

“Spacing out on grass banks comes naturally to fans, and there’s no issues with ventilation at our open-air venues.”

The organisers will stay vigilant and ensure that the crowds at the tournament follow Covid-19 protocols, including wearing masks and ensuring social distancing.

  • New Zealand’s White Ferns and the West Indies open the tournament at Mount Maunganui’s Bay Oval on Friday (March 4).
  • India women will begin their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on March 6.
  • As per Health Ministry, the crowd limit will be capped at 10 per cent as opposed to only allowing 100 people for outdoor events amid the COVID protection framework rule.

The exemption, however, won’t affect the four most popular games of the tournament with fans geared up for live-action from the venues. Big matches include locals New Zealand women in action against Australian women.

  • Tickets to the first seven, of the tournament’s 31 matches, have gone back on sale from Wednesday morning, with more games expected to be added in the coming days, reported Stuff.
  • Earlier, ticket sales were paused to ensure the guidelines of the previous MOH rule.
