In a press conference on Monday, Jasprit Bumrah, the vice-captain of the team stated that the veteran spinner has looked good in training. Notably, Ashwin missed both the series against West Indies and also the T20Is against Sri Lanka owing to an injury.

“Ashwin is shaping up well. No complaints. He looked good and did everything in training today. Batted, bowled and did fielding. Hopefully, there won’t be any issue,” Bumrah said in the press conference.

This match will be significant for a number of reasons. India will be eyeing number 1 spot in the ICC Men’s Test team rankings, Sri Lanka will aim for their first Test win against India in India, but more than all of that, Virat Kohli will be the focal point of attraction for it will be his 1000th Test match.
Speaking about his former captain’s incredible feat, Bumrah stated “It’s a big achievement. Virat Kohli playing his 100th Test. It’s a testament to his hard work. For now, we all are just focused on winning the match”
