Medvedev is eager to win the title at the Mexican Open this year as it will propel him to the number one ranking in the men’s singles. After winning his maiden Grand Slam title in the US Open last year, Medvedev was on course to win a second consecutive Grand Slam title. He has been in a terrific form at Melbourne and even won the first two sets in the summit clash against Nadal, however he couldn’t close out the game and had to be content with with the runners trophy. He will look to clinch the title in this tournament.
Meanwhile, Benoit Paire, who went till the third round in the Australian Open, enters this tournament after making three consecutive first round exits in Cordoba Open, Argentina Open and Rio Open. Apart from the third round appearance at Melboourne, Paire had faced first round exits in all the tournament he had participated so far this year. Against an opponent like Medvedev he will once again have a tough match.
