IPL 2022: SRH wanted to badly acquire Kishan due to his exploits in the 2020 season of the IPL. The Southpaw scored 30 sixes and scored 516 runs. SRH had already let go of Jonny Bairstow ahead of mega auctions and were on the lookout for a wicketkeeper-batter. MI though spoiled their party.

“We initially wanted to buy Kishan. But once his bid crossed our budget, we were forced to look for alternatives. Yes, [Jonny] Bairstow was available, but we had doubts on whether he would be available for the entire season. We wanted an international wicketkeeper who would be available for all the games, so we thought Pooran was the right choice once Kishan slipped away,” Muralitharan told Sportskeeda in an interview.

SRH spin coach further opined that he is optimistic Nicholas Pooran performing well in the upcoming season. The southpaw endured a torrid time in IPL 2021 as he could score only 85 runs in 11 innings at an average of 7.

“We believe that he’ll do well for us. And the fact that he was sold for such a high price proves that many other franchises desperately wanted him in their squads. Surely, we’re not the only ones,” he added.
Pooran has found his form ahead of the IPL 2022 season as he scored 61, 62, and 61 in the three-match T20I series against India. This should come as a big boost for SRH as they have pinned hopes on the southpaw for having a breakthrough IPL season.
