With Elland Road roaring them on, Leeds went close to opening the scoring in the fifth minute, when Jack Harrison’s effort just flew wide of the upright. In the 21st minute Adam Forshaw forced David de Gea into a strong save with a shot which was arrowing towards the top corner.

Cristiano Ronaldo then had a golden chance to open the scoring when he was picked out in the box by Paul Pogba, but Leeds goalkeeper Ilan Meslier denied him with a brilliant save from close range.
Bruno Fernandes then forced Meslier into another decent stop after more good work from Pogba, before Harry Maguire headed the visitors in front from the resulting corner. Ralf Rangnick’s side then went 2-0 up in first half stoppage time, when Jadon Sancho picked out Fernandes with an exquisite chip into the box, and the Portuguese playmaker headed home.

Leeds will need to get the crowd going again if they can, as the second Man United goal really took the wind out of the crowd. The hosts have looked strong in attack at times, but not great defensively and they’ve been caught out at the back.
