Both the teams enter the tie after losing their last game and are desperate for a victory. While Islamabad lost against Peshawar Zalmi by 10 runs, Quetta became the first team to lose against Karachi Kings yesterday. Both the teams are eager to inch closer to the playoffs as the tournament nears its business end. Islamabad will be without the services of Alex Hales who withdrew from the tournament citing personal reasons. He was the highest-run scorer for Islamabad United so far this season. Mubasir Khan replaced Hales at the top of the order in the last game but the move didn’t pay off.
Islamabad were also without the services of skipper Shadab Khan. The captain has taken the most wickets this series and have also contributed immensely with the bat. He is expected to make his return to the team for this game and that will bolster the Islamabad United unit to a large extent.
For Lahore Qalandars, Fakhar Zaman has scored the bulk of runs. He is the highest-run scorer ofthis edition, having accumulated 470 runs in eight games, that includes a century. He had a rare failure in the previous game against Karachi, where he was dismissed in the second over. After his dismissal, the other batsman from his team couldn’t score big. Fakhar will once again be the main man and Islamabad United bowlers will look to take him out early on. The other batsmen however need to step up. Harry Brook and David Wiese have been impressive lower down the order but players like Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Hafeez need to score runs to lend a solid support to Fakhar Zaman.
Islamabad too have the same issue as apart from Azam Khan in the middle order, no other batsman have struck a big score. Against a bowling line-up that comprises Shaheen Afridi, Rashid Khan and Haris Rauf. The Islamabad batters need to step up and score big. Both the teams still hav a chance of making it to the playoffs and this becomes a must-win game for both the sides.
