Lukaku headed the Blues ahead in the 55th minute, but Palmeiras pulled themselves back into it with Veiga’s penalty which was awarded after Silva’s handball. It stayed 1-1 for the majority of extra time before Luan used his arm to block Azpilicueta’s shot and Chelsea were awarded a penalty. Havertz stepped up and coolly converted it in the 118th minute. After a cagey 45 minutes, things stood 0-0. And unfortunately for Thomas Tuchel’s side, they also lost Mason Mount due to injury. Coming out after the break Chelsea dominated the flow of the game again and eventually found their scoring touch.

Palmeiras then stepped things up themselves and were handed a chance to make things all square after VAR called a handball against Silva. Raphael Veiga then sent Édouard Mendy the wrong way in front of club supporters for 1-1.

Havertz, who won the Champions League title for the Blues, beat goalkeeper Weverton to break Palmeiras’ hearts and win the title. To make matters worse for the Brazilian club, they finished the game with 10 men after Luan Garcia (who was at fault for the late penalty) was sent off.
