As for the 2nd ODI, it was yet another dominant performance by Rohit Sharma & Co. Even though the toss didn’t go India’s way as the hosts were sent to bat first. India did struggle initially losing Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant cheaply with the score reading 43/3 in 12 overs.

But Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul stitched together a 91-run stand for the fourth wicket to steady the ship. Although KL Rahul missed out on a well-deserved half-century with after run-out on 49, Suryakumar scored his career-best 64 in ODIs. Thanks to their efforts, India posted 237/9 in 50 overs.

“Surya had to take his time and understand what the team wants from him. KL also batted superbly as he is consistently up and down in the order. I have been asked to try something different. We wanted to try it one game. Shikhar should be back for the next game,” said Rohit Sharma said after the match.

With the ball, India were top-notch. Prasidh Krishna was the wrecker in chief with a 4/12 in 9 overs while Shardul Thakur bagged two. Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Hooda and Washington Sundar all bagged a wicket each to bowl out West Indies for 193 and secure a 44-run win.

“I have never seen a spell like that in India for a long time now. Prasidh bowled with a lot of pace and kept it going. The others complimented him,” Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation after 2nd ODI.
