“We don’t want to leave anything to chance. Since the ODIs in Ahmedabad are being held behind closed doors, the same should apply for Calcutta as well. It shouldn’t seem that Calcutta got any undue advantage by hosting the matches,” someone in the know of things told Telegraph India.
As per a state government notification issued on Monday, “all indoor and outdoor sports activities will be allowed within 75 per cent of the capacity of the venue” which means a crowd attendance of around 50,000 can be expected.
- The BCCI is maintaining a cautious approach after 7 members including 3 players tested positive in Ahmedabad ahead of ODIs.
- Eden Gardens will host all three games in February in India’s first T20 assignment back home in the new year.
- The Kieron Pollard-led West Indies will play three ODIs in Ahmedabad beginning February 6 before coming to Kolkata for the T20I leg.
- The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), however, is going ahead with the plans to print tickets.
- The CAB last hosted a T20I match against New Zealand in November last year in a bio-secure environment with 70 per cent attendance.
- As per sources, tickets were sent for printing last Sunday. The ticket costs are capped at Rs 650, Rs 1000 and Rs 1500.
“We need time to make the necessary arrangements. If the BCCI permission comes late, then we will not have the required time to complete the sale and distribution of tickets,” a senior CAB official said.
