Winning the toss and opting to bat first, India were off to a shaky start. 16-year old Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who is India’s highest-run scorer in the tournament was dismissed in the eight over after scoring just 6 runs. Opener Harnoor Singh too departed for 16 in the 13th over after edging an attempted pull off the bowling of Jack Nisbet to the wicket-keeper.
India were in a precarious position at 37-2 when skipper Yash Dhull joined Rasheed in the middle. Both the batsman then played mature knocks and ensured there were no further slip-ups as they stitched together a brilliant partnership. Both the batters played sensibly without taking any risks. Once they were set, they started playing their shots and looked pretty comfortable against both the pacers and the spinners.
19-year old Dhull was particularly impressive against the pacers and displayed an array of shots, finding boundaries at ease. Both the batsmen also made use of the bigger ground by consistently running ones and twos and kept the scoreboard ticking. Dhull then scored his first century of the tournament off 105 deliveries. He was however dismissed for 110 in an unfortunate manner by getting run out at the non-strikers end. In the next ball, Rasheed slashed an outside off delivery that was caught brilliantly at backward point by. He fell short of a century by just six runs.
It is to be noted that both these batters were affected by Covid earlier in the tournament and missed two matches. Their valuable knock in this important clash deserves a very special applause. Showcasing their amazing abilities with the bats, they have raised their stakes ahead of the upcoming IPL mega auction.
