In 2017, the IPL rights were sold via closed bids. Star India (now part of Disney) outbidded Sony Network & others to acquire the rights for Rs 16,347 crore.

BCCI is now expecting bid in a range of 35,000 to 40,000 Crores which is almost 150% of the last value of rights.

“12,000 Crore for sale of two franchises was phenomenal. Fingers crossed, we should get 40,000 crore plus from the IPL Media Rights.”, recently BCCI President Sourav Ganguly shared light on his expectations.

Who can potentially bid for the Rights? The incumbent Disney Star Network, Sony Network, Reliance Viacom 18 and Amazon Prime Video are likely to be the primary contdenders for the rights.

The good news for the BCCI is that the incumbent Disney Star Network has declared that they will continue to bet big on IPL Media Rights & other cricket properties.
