Big names on Twitch and YouTube have continued to weigh in on streamers watching entire seasons of reality cooking shows while broadcasting to thousands of viewers. Joe Rogan warned his viewers during a show with chef Phillip Frankland Lee that working in the food and restaurant industry might not be for everyone. Rogan also has a unique diet, participating in an all-meat and fruit diet during January 2022. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know something or other about dining.
Joe Rogan discussed the “grime” of working in a kitchen during episode 1765 of his podcast, saying he once dated a girl who had gone to college for hotel and restaurant management.
Rogan recalled how, when she went to work at a restaurant, he would visit her, claiming they were having relationship problems because of her profession.
Rogan remembers dating someone in the restaurant industry
“I remember going to see her, and she was miserable,” he recalled. “She couldn’t believe how long she had to work.”

Philip Frankland Lee added that to work in the industry, you have to love it, or else it won’t work out.
“All she wanted was a career. Her schooling ended, and she graduated from college, and then she got the job. Then she had this boyfriend who was a f**king comedian. Rogan added that it was very strange to her that he had his days free while she had to work long hours.
It’s hard to be there for loved ones’ birthdays and other important events when you have a job like that, his chief guest explained.
“If you are considering following this path, prepare yourself,” Rogan said.
While it remains to be seen whether or not ambitious chefs will heed Rogan’s words, it’s clear that Rogan has experienced restaurant pain from a second-hand perspective, and knows some of the challenges associated with that industry.
