The developers at Niantic have provided details regarding the ticket-exclusive Special Research that trainers can do next month during the Pokemon GO Tour: Johto experience. Most of these events will begin on 26th February, which is celebrated as Pokemon Day to mark the release of the first game of the franchise in 1996 that was Pokemon Red and Blue. Here are the details of the two updates regarding the Special Research events.
Pokemon GO Tour: Johto Update 1
Trainers need to choose one between the three starter Pokemons iconic to the Johto region. They will be Chikorita, Totodile, and Cyndaquil. The chosen Pokemon will accompany the trainer during the research task events. Trainers would have to complete research tasks with Professor Willow to learn more about the Johto region. They would also have to build connections with their Pokemons, make friends with other trainers across the world, and explore new places.

Pokemon GO trainers will have to complete the following types of challenges during the Research task events:
- They need to catch different species of Pokemons.
- They need to evolve different Pokemons.
- They have to earn Stardusts.
- They have to take GO Snapshots during the event.
- They need to defeat Team GO Rocket Grunts.

For completing these challenges, Pokemon GO trainers will be able to earn the following rewards:
- Items needed for evolving various Pokemons
- Rocket Radar pieces
- An encounter with Shiny Gyarados
- An encounter with Celebi
If trainers are able to catch Celebi during the event, it will know the attack Magical Leaf.
Pokemon GO Tour: Johto Update 2
This update expands the number of Pokemon available in the Johto region. There are various popular Pokemons that were first found in the Kanto region have evolutions that were first discovered in Johto. Thus, even these Pokemons first found in the Kanto region will be available in the Pokémon GO Tour: Johto. Even trainers who do not have exclusive tickets can find them in the wild in-between 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM local time.

The Pokemons from the Kanto region that will also join the Johto experience are:
- Poliwhirl
- Golbat
- Gloom
- Slowpoke
- Onix
- Chansey
- Seadra
- Scyther
- Porygon
- Eevee
During the Pokemon GO Tour: Johto event, there will be no walking requirement to evolve Eevee into either Espeon or Umbreon. Certain items required for evolving Pokémon will be given as rewards for ticket holders when they complete Special Research tasks. With this, they will be able to complete the Johto Pokedex quickly by catching all the Pokemons.
