Despite a spirited Brentford performance Manchester United made their cutting edge show as goals from Anthony Elanga, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford ensured a 3-1 win. The Brentford Community Stadium was bouncing, as it usually is under lights, and the home side really should have been ahead inside 15 minutes with two golden opportunities to score.

David de Gea was equal to both though as the Bees smelled blood but failed to make the most of their momentum in the opening quarter. Ralf Rangnick’s men slowly started to take control of the ball but their relative monopoly on possession failed to materialise into any meaningful chances.
United were wide open on the break though, and should have conceded on 31 minutes only for Ivan Toney and Mathias Jensen to fluff a one-on-one. After the break it was United who almost took the lead on 47 minutes as a cross found Ronaldo whose looping header hit the crossbar.

And soon it was two as Bruno Fernandes broke and laid a square pass to Mason Greenwood who couldn’t miss.
Cristiano Ronaldo came off to be replaced by Marcus Rashford and the England international soon netted after a rasping finish from 12 yards. Brentford managed to grab one goal back late on as Ivan Toney found himself free in the area and prodded home from two yards.
