India had never won a series in South Africa ever and the final frontier remains unbreached after Virat Kohli and Co. succumbed to a consecutive at the hands of Proteas on Friday. The visitors had sealed a famous 113-run win at Centurion and were favourites to clinch the Freedom Trophy, but the Proteas counterpunched and won the last two Tests to keep their record intact.

Following the series loss, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan took to social media to give his verdict on the series. Pathan wrote that he believes this tour was India’s best chance to win a series in the Rainbow Nation, and the performances of Keegan Petersen and Marco Jansen meant that they are already future South African stars to look out for.

Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel believes India will have to “regroup and rephrase” following their losses in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Patel gave credit to the hosts to bounce back and clinch the series, especially having lost the toss in both games.

Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer meanwhile lauded the South African team and wrote that while the result did not go in India’s favour, it was nonetheless a gripping series. Jaffer added that the future was bright for the Proteas with the amount of talent at their disposal. The ex India batter added that he was looking forward to see the quartet of Rabada, Nortje, Ngidi and Jansen bowl and further praised the efforts of Keegan Petersen.

Former India captain and head coach Ravi Shastri was also in awe of Keegan Petersen’s heroics. Shastri said that the young South African batter had great initials in reference to Kevin Petersen, and his style reminded him of his childhood hero and former India batsman Gundappa Vishwanath.

Kiran More, former Indian wicketkeeper, did not mince his words and said that the loss was down to India’s fragile batting and lack of support for Rishabh Pant. He meanwhile also praised the South Africans and believes that their return with a new set of players is great for international cricket.
