ISL season 8 Transfers: SC East Bengal in talks to sign NorthEast United defender Jestin George on loan
Jestin George who played a pivotal role for Gokulam Kerala in their maiden I-League win last season was picked up by NorthEast United this summer. But head coach Khalid Jamil has preferred the likes of Mashoor Shareef, Mohammed Irshad and foreign defenders over the Kerala born defender. George still featured in two matches and did a decent job for the Highlanders. However, it has been a tough season for the 23-year-old as he has spent most of the time on the reserve bench.
It's another one from God's own country.
This time from Kottayam, that too an I-league champion. 💪🔥

Therefore an opportunity to feature for SC East Bengal will mean a lot to him right now. George has nothing to lose, in fact, he will get a terrific platform to prove himself at this level. The 23-year-old started his career at Bengaluru FC’s junior team and gradually rose through the ranks to feature for Gokulam Kerala. Even in Gokulam Kerala, he started with their second team and later after a few impressive performances he joined the first team.

Jestin George first came into the reckoning when he feature for Gokulam Kerala and helped them win the 2019 Durand Cup beating Mohun Bagan in the finals. he followed that up with another great feat as Gokulam Kerala won their maiden I-League title last season.
The young defender has a calm head on his shoulder and was pretty reliable for Gokulam Kerala head coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese. Apart from playing as a centre back, George can also slot in as a defensive midfielder and his decent passing attributes makes him a great fit in midfield aswell.
It has been a tough season for SC East Bengal as their foreign defenders Tomislav Mrcela and Franjo Prce have not got going. They are now out with injuries and new head coach Mario Rivera will look to bring in some reinforcements to stable the backline. He will look to continue on the great job done by interim coach Renedy Singh. The former Indian captain got the defensive shape right for the Red and Golds. Now with foreign reinforcements like Marcelo Riberio and Fran Sota coming in, SC East Bengal fans will hope for a change in fortune for the Kolkata giants.
