Pro Kabaddi PKL 8: U-Mumba defender Rinku performs the league’s first-ever solo Super Tackle
Pro Kabaddi PKL 8 – 1st SOLO Super Tackle: It will be a match that Fazal Atrachali’s men will want to forget. However during the course of last night’s game, there was one magical moment produced by a U Mumba player that will forever be remembered.
Defender Rinku Singh, in a moment of brilliance, unleashed a terrific solo Super Tackle and entered the record books straightaway, becoming the first defender in the seven-year history of the league to do so.
It all happened seconds before the end of the first half. Patna Pirates were cruising as the scores read 18-7 and U Mumba were reduced to just two men – Rinku and Harendra – on the mat. Patna’s Sachin came on to raid.
He was trying to touch both the men to inflict an all-out and in order to evade his touch, Harendra stepped out of the line, ruling himself out. Now having to take down one more man, Sachin went near Rinku but the defender was quick enough to catch hold of his ankle.
The raider tried hard to escape from the grip but Rinku was too strong to let go thereby becoming the first man to perform a solo super tackle in PKL’s history by being the only defender to remain on the mat.
Strength & determination personified 🤯👊🏽

Over the years, the league has seen defenders taking on raiders single-handedly. In the 2018 season, Surender Narwal took down Chandran Ranjith single-handedly in a super tackle and in the 2017 season, Bengaluru Bulls’ Rohit Kumar and Ravinder Pahal unleashed two solo super tackles on separate occasions.
But all the three defenders had their other teammates on the mat with them when they performed the tackle. Rinku’s effort yesterday was the first instance of a defender performing the solo super tackle without any of his teammates on the mat.
Rinku who is playing his debut PKL season, has impressed with his performances so far. He has scored the most number of tackle points (24) for U Mumba, including one High 5, emerging as one of the main defenders for U Mumba alongside skipper Fazel Atrachali.
