Immigration Minister Alex Hawke is weighing exercising his discretionary power to revoke Djokovic’s visa over concern about the star’s medical exemption from Australia’s COVID-19 vaccination requirements.

The 34-year-old defending champion, who was out practicing at the Rod Laver Arena earlier on Thursday, drew unseeded fellow Serb Miomir Kecmanovic for his opening round match, expected to be played on Monday or Tuesday.
The Australian government, authorities in Spain and now his own government in Serbia is looking to book Novak Djokovic for breaking Covid-19 norms.

Djokovic VISA Drama LIVE: Why Australia can deport him? Djokovic’s battle to stay in Australia and fight for a record 21st Grand Slam title is reportedly “weakening by the day”, with the federal government leaning towards deporting him.

The questions are being raised now on did Djokovic deliberately lied on Australia VISA Form?

The star himself has blamed “human error” by a member of his team for failing to state he had travelled outside of Serbia in the 14-day period prior to entering Australia.

The Serbian star flew into Australia a week ago claiming a vaccine exemption because of a positive PCR test result on December 16.

Border agents rejected his exemption saying a recent infection was an insufficient reason, tore up his visa and placed him in an immigration hotel.

But the vaccine-sceptic Djokovic’s high-powered legal team dramatically overturned the visa decision in court on Monday on a procedural matter related to his airport interview. The World No. 1 was released from the hotel and has trained at Melbourne Park several times since.

Now, Immigration Minister Alex Hawke, who holds the power to cancel visas, says he is considering cancelling the visa another time, as fresh doubts emerge about Djokovic’s travels in the two weeks before he arrived in Australia.

“This was human error and certainly not deliberate,” Djokovic said in a post on Instagram. “We are living in challenging times in a global pandemic and sometimes these mistakes can occur.”

Giving false or misleading information on the form is an offence, carrying a maximum penalty of 12 months in prison, and a fine of up to A$6,600 ($4,730) and can lead to cancellation of the offender’s visa.

Djokovic, who is seeking to win a record 21st tennis major at the Open, said his lawyers had provided additional information to the Australian government on Wednesday.

Australian Open 2022: Novak Djokovic speaks out after multiple Reports claim ‘he lied on Australia travel form’

Djokovic VISA Drama LIVE: Why Serbia Government is starting a probe? The Serbian PM and the authorities till now has been very supportive of Djokovic.

But all that can be changed now. Djokovic could face a fine in Serbia after admitting to knowingly breaking isolation laws after testing positive for Covid-19 last month, lawyers have reportedly claimed.

The authorities in Serbia has warned his behaviour appears to have been “a clear breach” of the rules.

After pictures of Djokovic surfaced in the days after his positive test on social media, the Serbian acknowledged his did break isolation laws in what he admitted was “an error of judgment”.

Djokovic VISA Drama LIVE – Spain also investigating a law breach? If troubles in Australia and Serbia were not enough, Spain also has started investigating a Covid breach by Djokovic.

The Spanish officials claim the world No.1 entered the country illegally prior to heading to Australia.

Djokovic went to Spain from Serbia in the 14 days prior to arriving in Australia, something he has admitted after an error was spotted on his arrivals form in the country.

Since September 20, Serbian citizens have needed a vaccine certificate or a special exemption to enter Spanish territory.

However, Spanish officials are now claiming they did not receive any request from Djokovic, who is unvaccinated.

It is the third country Djokovic is now facing legal issues with, as Australia is looking into deporting him prior to the start of the Australian Open and Serbia is investigating whether he breached isolation rules when knowingly having testing positive to Covid.
