What exactly happened?
Van der Dussen was adjudged caught behind by the on-field umpire at the stroke of lunch off Shardul Thakur. But there were questions on the legality of the catch taken by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant.

From replays, it seemed that the catch didn’t carry properly. The ball seemed to have bounced before Rishabh Pant gloved it. However, there was no conclusive evidence that the ball bounced before going into Pant’s gloves.
Law 2.12 requires conclusive evidence for an on-field decision to be overturned. “An umpire may alter any decision provided that such alteration is made promptly. This apart, an umpire’s decision, once made, is final,” it states.

As for the match, Shardul Thakur’s 7/61 helped India bowl out South Africa for 229 with the hosts leading by only 27 runs. But Indian openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal failed to take advantage as they were dismissed for 8 and 23 respectively.
Two struggling batsmen Chesteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are on the crease, unbeaten on 35 and 11 respectively. India closed the day at 85/2, 58 runs ahead of South Africa.
