Ashes 2021: Pat Cummins on Justin Langer – The Ashes 2021 is in the bags after T20 World Cup and Australia’s head coach Justin Langer is now one of the most successful ones for the Kangaroos. The two good results mean he is likely to stay on as the head coach despite opposition from many players. But Australia’s Test captain Pat Cummins refused to speak on his future. Australia skipper Pat Cummins on Tuesday said that his side will celebrate the Ashes victory rather than speculating Justin Langer’s future as the head coach.

“I think we’ll savour this victory today and continue for the Ashes and I don’t think today’s the day to speculate on that. I think we’ll sit down all together after this series or whenever I think his tenure is up or his contract is up for renewal in a few months, I think we’ll visit that then,” Pat Cummins was quoted saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Cricket Australia chief Nick Hockley on Sunday had hinted that the coaches for different formats could be split and he did not give a clear answer on whether Justin Langer would remain the coach for all three formats going forward.

“I think JL, I think the whole square are doing a fantastic job. We’ve seen that through the performances of the first couple of Tests. We always said we’re going to be really focused on the two upcoming campaigns – the T20 World Cup and the T20 team did fabulously to bring that trophy home, and same for the Ashes – I know JL, I know the team, they are very, very focused on this series,” Nick Hockley said.

“What we have said, before the summer, we’ll be sitting down at the end of the season to review where we go from there. As I said, that’s something we’re going to look at towards the end of the season,” he added.

Hockley also did not entertain questions on whether CA would like to ease the workload on Langer, who is in charge of all three formats.

Justin Langer’s tenure as the head coach is slated to come to an end next year. However, he has shown his willingness to remain the coach of the side. Speculation is rife in Australia cricketing circles regarding Michael Di Venuto and Andrew McDonald taking over as the white-ball coach.

Pacer Scott Boland took six wickets in the second innings as Australia defeated England by an innings and 14 runs in the third Ashes Test here at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday.
