Premier League: Salah has been crowned as the Fan’s Footballer of the Year – Mohamed Salah has been crowned as the Fans’ Footballer of the Year as West Ham United’s Declan Rice finished in 2nd place. More than 135,000 votes were received after fans voted for their favorite Premier League stars who performed brilliantly over the year. After his unstoppable season with Liverpool, he was bound to be the top favorite to win the award although the Egyptian failed to win a trophy with his club in the year.

Salah came out on top following a stunning calendar year, which saw him score 24 goals in 40 Premier League appearances. The 29-year-old achieved an incredible 61% of the vote for the national award to finish comfortably ahead of second-placed Declan Rice of West Ham United.

Manchester United Bruno Fernandes finished third, behind Salah and Rice, and ahead of Manchester City’s Phil Foden, with Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy making up the top five. Salah inevitably also came out on top in the individual club standings for Liverpool, with Trent Alexander-Arnold finishing as runner-up, Joel Matip third and Fabinho coming home in fourth.

Top 9 for FFOTY 2021:

1) Mohamed Salah

2) Declan Rice

3) Bruno Fernandes

4) Phil Foden

5) Edouard Mendy

6) Mason Mount

7) Ruben Dias

8) Kevin De Bruyne

9) Jorginho

The Egyptian has been on a different level to everyone else this year and deservedly retains his Fans’ Footballer of the Year award after a stunning 12 months.

His goal against Newcastle last week equaled Jamie Vardy’s record of scoring or assisting in 15 consecutive Premier League games, and there will surely be more records broken before his career is done. A worthy winner and an incredible player who only seems to be getting better Liverpool will be desperate to tie him down to a new contract.
