Ashes 2021 LIVE: Trevor Bayliss says England can take inspiration from India after going 0-1 down in the series

“Having a long break is going to show itself I guess, but there are no excuses from me. People will have seen me rubbing my knee from time to time when I was in the field, but rest assured I’m fine,” Stokes wrote in his column for UK tabloid The Mirror.

“It just gets a little bit uncomfortable every now and again in and around my cartilage, but it just looks worse than it is by the way I try and get off it as soon as I can,” he added.

Ben Stokes failed to make his mark after returning to cricket after 4+ months. He managed scores of just 5 & 14. He also leaked 65 runs from 12 overs and bowled a number of no-balls, including David Warner’s wicket which would have changed the context of the game. The ICC’s automated no-ball decision failed at Brisbane amid an impotent technical facility amid border lockdown. Snicko for edge technology also failed to assist in the entire Test.

“It was frustrating to have David Warner out early in his innings only for a no-ball to chalk it off,” he further stated.

Stokes had missed England’s home Test series against India earlier this year after playing just a couple of matches in The Hundred in July. He had announced mental health break and finger injury were reasons behind his absence.

The England talisman feels England are in no panic after losing the opening Test.

“Now is not the time to panic. We have a good track record of bouncing back pretty well after a defeat early in a series,” Stokes said.

“We came back against South Africa to win, we came back against the West Indies last year to win, so we’ve done it before and we can do it again,” he concluded.
