Virat Kohli, the captain of the Indian white-ball team from 2017, was removed from the ODI captaincy and the command was given to Rohit Sharma – who took over as the T20I captain last month.
Virat Kohli is yet to release an official statement after the major development as InsideSport.IN has learnt that all is not well between him and the BCCI. One of the official informed InsideSport that Kohli was explained the thought process of the board & the selectors.
He was told in no uncertain terms that he should give up the ODI leadership since it wasn’t prudent to have two captains in white ball cricket. But he refused to budge.
The board officials and chairman of selection committee kept waiting for Kohli’s call for the next 48 hours. However, the 33-year-old never called and a miffed BCCI took the final call and gave the ODI captaincy to Rohit Sharma.
