Davis Cup Semifinals LIVE: World No.1 Novak Djokovic’s Serbia is all set to face Croatia in the Davis Cup semifinals. Serbia beat Kazakhstan to make it to the semifinals while Croatia defeated Italy in the Quarterfinals. Similarly, Germany and World No.2 Daniil Medvedev Russian Tennis Federation beat Great Britain and Sweden to make it to the semifinals. The first semifinal will be an old rivalry against World No.1 singles players versus World No.1 Doubles Team.
This will be only the third clash between the two teams in the Davis Cup since they became independent nations after the breakup of Yugoslavia.
Serbia holds a 2-0 record against Croatia in head-to-head battles. In 2010, Serbia beat Croatia 4-1 in the quarterfinals and went on to win the competition. Later in 2015, Serbia thrashed Croatia 5-0.
Both won deciding doubles matches in the quarter-finals, Serbia over Kazakhstan and Croatia over Italy. Croatia became the first team through to the last four of the Davis Cup Finals.
Under pressure Marin Cilic will face Djokovic. He has managed only a couple of victories after Serbian legend in 19 games.

“There is a big rivalry obviously being neighbouring countries, and there is always an extra pressure, an extra motivation, extra expectations I think for both nations to really win against each other”, said Novak Djokovic.

“It’s not just semi-finals, it’s Croatia against Serbia, which has extra meaning for us,” he added.

Marin Cilic

“Whoever wins is going to be in the final of Davis Cup and that’s an incredible achievement for both countries,” said Marin Cilic.

Russia thrashed Sweden 2-0 to make it to the Davis Cup semifinals while Germany beat Britain.

“It was a great boost of confidence to beat the home team [in the Group Stage]. We are winning a lot of matches, we didn’t lose a tie in the group. Saturday’s going to be my first semi-final, so I’m really looking forward to it,” he added.

“It’s great, it’s an unbelievable feeling. We had super team chemistry,” Germany captain said.

Krawietz, twice a French Open doubles champion, said: “I am super happy that we’re going to Madrid. “The box was unbelievably loud — it pushed us a lot and super happy to make it to the semi-finals.”
