Speaking on Star Sports, Shreyas Iyer heaped praise on Rahul Dravid for backing him to play at the highest level following his heroics in the Kanpur Test. The 26-year-old said, “Rahul Dravid is an amazing individual. I have been playing under him during my India A days, I had an amazing experience. I was captaining as well and he was really supportive during those times and used to give that confidence that you need to play red-ball cricket as soon as possible.”
Shreyas Iyer added, “Rahul Dravid gives you that self-confidence that you need to play at the highest level. Obviously, I know that comes from his experience, the way he has contributed to Indian cricket over the years and has established as one of the greatest individuals to have ever played this sport.

Shreyas Iyer further said, “There is a lot to learn from him and every time you go to him with some new questions he always has the answer for you and he never treats you as an outsider. I really love interacting with him, wherever we go, anytime and super excited to be playing under him for the Indian cricket team and looking forward to establishing a strong bond with him.”
After becoming the 16th Indian to hit a century on debut, Iyer went on to achieve a unique feat on Day 4 of the ongoing Kanpur Test against New Zealand. He followed the ton in the first innings with a splendid fifty to become the first Indian to score a century and half-century in Test on debut. Interestingly, Sunil Gavaskar – who handed Iyer the debut cap – was the last Indian batsman to get 50+ scores in both innings on debut.
