Manchester United New Manager: Man Utd reach agreement with Ralf Rangnick to become interim manager for six months – Manchester United are set to name German coach Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season, following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday. Solskjaer was relieved of his duties following a humiliating 4-1 defeat away to lowly Watford and it emerged that the club planned to make a short-term appointment before naming a permanent boss at the end of the season.

MANCHESTER UNITED have agreed a deal to appoint Ralf Rangnick as interim manager, according to reports. Ernesto Valverde, Lucien Favre, Paulo Fonseca, and Rudi Garcia were all rumored to be in the shortlist to become the interim manager of Manchester United.

The move is subject to his current club Lokomotiv Moscow allowing him to leave, report The Athletic. He is currently head of sports and development at the Russian club but it is believed that United do not think there will be any obstacle to prevent him from leaving.

Rangnick reached the Champions League semi-finals with Schalke in 2011, where they were knocked out by Man Utd, and oversaw RB Leipzig’s meteoric rise from the fourth tier of German football to the Bundesliga and the upper echelons of European football as director of football between 2012 and 2019.

He is also considered to be one of the masterminds behind Gegenpressing, and has influenced the coaching styles of both Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel.

Rangnick, 63, will sign on for six months as manager before moving into a consultancy role at the club at the end of the season. However, the Red Devils have been unable to get a deal sorted prior to the visit to Chelsea on Sunday.

That means Michael Carrick will continue in the dugout and have the opportunity to win his first Premier League match as a manager. Rangnick is nicknamed ‘The Professor’ having pioneered Gegenpressing in his native country.

He is said to have inspired top coaches like Thomas Tuchel, Jurgen Klopp and Julian Nagelsmann. It was rumored United had a shortlist of five candidates to take over as interim boss. Former Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde, Lucien Favre, Paulo Fonseca, and Rudi Garcia were all in the potential list.

What does Ralf Ragnick’s appointment mean for Michael Carrick?

Having taken temporary charge of the side for their midweek European tie against Villarreal, former midfielder Michael Carrick marked his managerial career with a decent 2-0 win.

However, undoubtedly too inexperienced to guide a club of United’s size for any great length of time, Carrick will now make way for a more competent Rangnick.

Ralf Rangnick might have been the biggest influence in Thomas Tuchel’s career in helping him become a manager of a club.
