ECB hires Troy Cooley: England Men have confirmed the appointment of Troy Cooley as Consultant Pace Bowling Coach for the touring party’s preparation ahead of the Ashes Test series starting next month.
The former England and Australian bowling coach will work under ECB’s Elite Pace Bowling Coach Jon Lewis supporting the bowlers’ preparations in Brisbane. Cooley will then assist the Lions seamers in their four-day match against Australia A starting on 9 December & then will head to India.
Commenting on the appointment of Cooley, Mo Bobat, ECB Performance Director, said: “It’s great to have someone with Troy’s expertise and experience supporting our Ashes prep and also working closely with our Lions pace bowlers.
“Troy’s understanding of what it takes to be successful in Australian conditions is second to none, and the players are sure to benefit hugely.”
After completing his assignment with the England team, Cooley will head to India to work at NCA along with newly appointed head VVS Laxman.
“I would say one of the biggest success for both Sourav [Ganguly, the BCCI president] and Jay [Shah, the secretary] is to convince Troy Cooley to work with India’s next batch of pacers at the National Cricket Academy,” a senior BCCI official recently told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
“We are hearing that BCCI is giving Cooley a three-year contract and he will closely co-ordinate with the NCA head of cricket, VVS Laxman.”
