ATP Finals: 3 big players who can stop Novak Djokovic from winning record 6th title

As 2021 nears its end, Djokovic will be looking to end the year on a high. He is ready to create a number of records in the upcoming tournament. Ruthless Djokovic has so far won 44 out of his 48 matches in this ATP season.

  • Novak Djokovic can equal Swiss Tennis Maestro Roger Federer for most ATP Finals titles in the history of the tournament. Djokovic is currently tied with Ivan Lendl and Pete Sampras.
  • He can become the oldest ATP Finals champion. Federer was 30 years old when he last won the tournament. Djokovic had last won the trophy in 2015.
  • The Serbian legend can win the second most number of matches in ATP Finals. He is only one victory behind Ivan Lendl. The maximum number of wins is achieved by Roger Federer- 59
  • Djokovic can win the ATP Finals in three different decades. He was won the title in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. Meanwhile, Federer registered victories in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2011.
  • He can win the trophy in three different countries, only the third player after Roger Federer and Ilie Nastase. Federer won the tournament in USA, UK and China. Nastase emerged victorious in France, Spain, USA and Sweden. Djokovic, meanwhile, has won in UK and China. Now he is set to play ATP Finals 2021 in Turin, Italy.

  • Daniil Medvedev is having a dream season with a blistering form with 4 ATP titles—Toronto, Mallorca, Marseille and US Open.
  • The Russian tennis star clinched his biggest title of the season, winning his first Grand Slam title at US Open by defeating World No.1 Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
  • In February, Medvedev had reached his second Major final at the Australian Open, where he lost to Djokovic in straight sets.
  • The World no.2 has bagged a total of five titles from 16 tournaments he has played so far.
  • Daniil Medvedev is one of the top players when it comes to the hardcourt. He is expected to continue his fine form at the ATP Finals as one of the favourites to win the title.

  • Alexander Zverev has the most number of wins than his competitors since Wimbledon 2021 (28-2).
  • He has had a breakthrough season with ATP titles in Vienna, Cincinnati, Madrid, Acapulco and Olympic Gold.
  • He stunned Djokovic at Olympics to win his GOLD medal.
  • Three years ago, Zverev became the youngest to reach ATP Final after Djokovic. Now, he is the only player who has beaten Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Djokovic to win the ATP title. He holds a scintillating 8-7 record.

  • Stefanos Tsitsipas had a roller coaster ATP season which witnessed both highs and lows
  • The Greek made it to the semifinals of the Australian Open and French Open Final where he was beaten by Djokovic.

  • Andrey Rublev of Russia will be making his only second appearance at ATP Finals.
  • Rublev has won only one ATP title at Rotterdam but has been impressive throughout the season.
  • He has won record 32 matches out of 44 fixtures on the hard-court surfaces

ATP Finals – Matteo Berrettini

  • World No.7 Matteo Berrettini will be the home favourites to deliver at ATP Finals in Italy.
  • He came to the picture when he made it to the finals of Wimbledon against Djokovic. Now, the fans will await an ATP Final from the Italian.
  • His ATP titles in London and Belgrade were the fruits of his terrific display on the court in 2021. He won record 41 matches out of 52 games.

ATP Finals – Hubert Hurkacz

  • Hubert Hurkacz became overnight fame when he beat Roger Federer in Wimbledon.
  • He is the only second debutant and the second player from Poland to reach the ATP Finals 2021 after 1976 runnerup Wojtek Fibak.
  • He reached the first Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon after his victory against Federer and Medvedev.
  • Hurkacz has won three ATP Finals in his breakthrough season of 2021 – Metz, Miami and Delray Beach.

ATP Finals – Casper Ruud

  • Casper Ruud showed promising signs in Grand Slam appearances throughout 2021.
  • He won five ATP titles this year in San Diego, Kitzbuhel, Gstaad, Bastad and Geneva, making him the only third player after Djokovic and Zverev to win five titles in the season.
  • His win-loss record stayed at 54:15 with an impressive display on both clay court and hard court surfaces.
  • In his excellence at ATP tournaments, he broke into the top 10 ATP Rankings.

Djokovic vs Medvedev- World No.1 Novak Djokovic and his battle with second-ranked Daniil Medvedev will be a joy to watch in ATP Finals. Medvedev denied Djokovic a calendar grand slam with a ferocious performance in US Open final. The Serbian took the revenge in Paris Masters earlier this month, setting up the perfect clash for ATP Finals.

Djokovic vs Tsistsipas- Djokovic will face off Stefanos Tsitsipas for the first time after the iconic French Open Final. The fixture lasted more than 4 hours with Djokovic making hard yards to come 0-2 from behind to win the match. Tsitsipas will be once again available to ruffle his feathers and avenge his final loss.
