Conway had sustained an injury in his right hand while punching his bat after getting out against England in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, Tim Seifert is looking to take up Conway’s place in the final game. He featured in New Zealand’s opening game against Pakistan but had to sacrifice his spot as Kiwis needed to bring in an extra bowling option in Adam Milne with Conway taking up wicketkeeping responsibilities.

As quoted by stuff.co.nz, Seifert said that he was gutted for Conway who will be missing out on the crucial game but is ready to go when called upon.

“It’s very unfortunate for Devon, we’re gutted for him, but at the end of the day sometimes that’s sport and little things like that happen. As a player I’m ready to go, and I’m very excited to be playing – hopefully – in the World Cup final. It’s a dream come true,” Siefert was quoted by stuff.co.nz.
