Yorkshire Cricket Racism Row: Azeem Rafiq reaches £200,000 settlement, calls for chiefs Mark Arthur, Martyn Moxon to resign – Azeem Rafiq has agreed to end his employment tribunal and has settled on for a six-figure fee, but has called for Yorkshire CC chiefs Mark Arthur and Martyn Moxon to resign from their roles. Incoming Yorkshire chair Lord Patel played a key role in reaching the settlement and had apologised to Rafiq and his family three days after assuming office. The £200,000 settlement does not include a non-disclosure agreement, and Patel criticised the inclusion of the same in the previous offer.

Former England U-19 captain Azeem Rafiq has reached a six-figure settlement to end his tribunal case but will continue to campaign against institutional racism after the Yorkshire Cricket Racism Row achieved wide-spread coverage forcing the club to re-think its structure. New chair Lord Patel apologised to Rafiq and his family but will face further challenges with the 30-year-old cricketer wanting chiefs Mark Arthur and Martyn Moxon to resign.

As per Daily Mail, Azeem Rafiq said, “Mark Arthur, Martyn Moxon and many of those on the coaching staff have been part of the problem. They have consistently failed to take responsibility for what happened on their watch and must go. I urge them to do the right thing and resign to make way for those who will do what is needed for the club’s future.”

Patel confirmed that the pair were still running the crisis-hit club’s day-to-day affairs as members of the senior management team but promised a review of the executive. He thanked Rafiq for being the whistleblower and said that Yorkshire handled the case very poorly. He said, “I thank Azeem Rafiq. He is a whistleblower and should be praised as such. Apologies to him and his family for what they have experienced and the way we have handled it. As an outsider coming in, it is clear the investigation was flawed and we have handled it badly.”

The former England U-19 captain added that he was thankful to Lord Patel for settling the case within 72 hours of his appointment. Rafiq will be able to speak about his experiences freely due to the lack of a non-disclosure agreement and is expected to do so at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport hearing.

Lord Patel’s top priorities now are resurrecting deals, persuading other businesses to come on board and liaising with the ECB as he tries to make up for crisis at the club. Yorkshire are £18.6million in debt and a loss of more than £6.5million after sponsors Nike, Tetley’s and Yorkshire Tea walked out on the club. ECB have also suspended international matches at Headingley pending a review, which accounts for more than 50 per cent of Yorkshire’s projected annual income.
