Premier League: Unai Emery to Newcastle? Unai Emery is the leading contender to become Newcastle United’s new manager, talks have taken place between Emery and the club’s hierarchy over the past 48 hours, more negotiations have been scheduled for Wednesday as Newcastle close in on their No 1 target.

With the Premier League club is working to finalize an agreement with the Spaniard. The new Saudi management hopes that they can appoint the 49-year-old, currently in charge of Spanish side Villarreal, before Saturday’s game against Brighton. But there is still work to be done on a deal with the Spaniard, whose contract with the La Liga club runs until 2023.

According to the Athletic Journalist David Ornstein” The decision will ultimately come down to whether or not Newcastle are prepared to meet Emery’s personal terms and pay him the sort of salary he was earning at Arsenal.”

After being sacked by PSG, Unai Emery took over the Arsenal job form the outgoing Arsene Wenger, despite a decent start to life in England the Spaniard didn’t have the best of time in the Premier League, he lasted just 19 months at Arsenal before he was sacked with Freddie Ljungberg taking interim control before Mike Arteta’s arrival, but since then he has revived his reputation in the footballing world winning last year’s Europa League trophy with Villarreal, where he went on to beat Manchester United. He had also previously won the trophy on three consecutive occasions with Sevilla between 2013 and 2016.
